Concert Organiser, Samantha Ford, is solo horn player and lifetime member of the Lydney Town Band. She is currently studying a Master's in English Language at the University of Birmingham and has been invited to present at her first international conference in Hong Kong about her postgraduate research. The concert will help raise money for her trip to Hong Kong and also contribute to the CLiC Sargent charity Cancer and Leukaemia in Children to help improve young lives with cancer.
The concert will showcase the success of the Lydney Band's training and youth development programme, bringing the talent of the Lydney Training Band and the Lydney Starter Band to the stage. Both bands consist of youth and adult members mainly local to Lydney, the Forest of Dean. The Lydney Starter Band will perform a selection of well known tunes including Marching Saints and Shaker Song (Lord of the Dance), and the Lydney Training Band will play music including Punchinellie, Everybody Needs Somebody, and Yesterday at the concert.
Guest soloist, Thomas Dunne, who will perform a musical selection for euphonium at the concert including Concert Gallop, Salut D'Amour, and Napoli. Thomas works as a brass tutor in the Cardiff and Newport area and is a freelance music journalist, writing for Brass Band World magazine and Switzerland-based magazine BRASS BAND.
